The car is mentioned in the book "Jaguar D Type & XKSS" by Graham Robson as one of "works team cars '56 "XKD601-XKD606. All with full width appendix C screens and anti roll bar. All these cars are mechanically similar to '55 works car, some had fuel injection. XKD603 and 606 sold to Ecurie Ecosse for '57 to be semi works team cars along with '55, XKD504.

Apparently the US owner James Munro is a mystery according to Jaguar Magazine. If anyone has info about this previous owner we'd love to hear about him.

    2018-01-10 16:51:20 | Clive Beecham writes:

The Paul S post from October 2008 has several mistakes in it. 603 was sold to James Munro of Akron Ohio in October 1959, as the 1957 Le Mans winner, when she actually came second. Munro preserved her in almost Museum like ownership until sold to Anthony Bamford in 1973, still with the subterfuge of one stripe and race no 3 of the LM winning Car (which actually is Louwmans' 606). 603 did not race at Silverstone in 1959. The engine in the car when sold to Munro was a 3.75 Litre very rare works engine (as opposed to the more normal 3.8 Litre engines) EE 5011-10.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
