Car History

Tested for 650 miles in 8 tests before signing off; supplied to Jaguar Cars New York; sold to Briggs Cunningham and painted white with blue stripes; May 1956 Cumberland, C. Gordon Benett, 5th; July, Beverly, Benett, 6th; intended to be Cunningham's own race car but believed to have been reduced to parts to be used on his other cars after all three crashed during one race meeting at Elkhart Lake in 1956. Believed this car no longer exists, but major parts (frame & tub) reported to exist in USA.

This car is mentioned in the book "Jaguar D type & XKSS" by Graham Robson as having been factory tested at MIRA 650 miles before being delivered.

I think it had got to be another replica where a PO got too excited and fabricated a few nice stories. I will only believe this once I see some hard evidence (like a FIVA pass) and support from JHT, and hopefully any sensible buyer as well.

It is a RAM replica, fibreglass body over Reynard-designed frame used for XJ6 engined replicas and Cobra replicas. Nothing wrong with them if well put together and they are cheap enough to drive a lot closer to the limit than you'd dare do on the road with a genuine car, but no business here.

The suspension front and rear are XJ and the sump has to be XJ to miss the frame crossmember under the engine. If RAM replicas were allowed on this site I'd have two more to go on! :-)
