Supplied to St Helier Garages, Jersey; sold to Lord Louth; Chimay, Belgium, 5th; raced in South Africa; Johannesburg race meeting, 2nd x 2; raced by John Love; 1957 sold; later owners included a Mr Watson (car raced by Malcolm Gardner), Jimmy de Villiers, Ian Brown (Rhodesia); 3.8 engine fitted & raced by Bruce Huntley & G. Pfaff but without success; 1961 Kyalami, ret'd; 1962 sold IO Russ Taylor (UK); registered 516 EYR; 1964 sold to Jackie Epstein; 1965 sold to Nigel Moores; 1988 possibly sold to Yoshijuki Hayashi (Japan); 1989 sold to European collector; auctioned by Brooks and sold to REX Collection (Sweden) for £1.2m; 1992 auctioned by Brooks and sold to David Cohen (Canada) for a lesser amount; raced by Robert Brooks at Laguna Seca; sold, via Adrian Hamilton, to Paul Burdell (UK) and still owned by him; 1994 raced at Laguna Seca & rolled without great damage.

This car is mentioned in the book "Jaguar D type & XKSS" by Graham Robson as having body H2012.

Elley & Broderick was a garage in Salisbury, Rhodesia where this car was maintained for Mr Watson in the early 1960s. Rod Wells was an apprentice at the time and helped fit the 3.8 engine which was specially ordered from the factory in England. The original engine threw a con rod and destroyed the block.

Actually Lord Louth picked it up from the Jaguar Factory and took it back to Jersey himself before officially taking 'delivery' from St. Helier Garages.

Actually it finished 3rd in a weird "Sports car class" in 1956 in Helsinki, as can be seen in this nice clip:

Weird because there was another class at the same race in another heat, "Production Sports cars over 2000cc" which was won by XKD530.

Re. the photo I have just uploaded, I have now found some records which I thought had vanished. These confirm the photo was taken at a R.E.C.C. (Romford Enthusiasts Car Club) sprint at Snetterton (Norfolk, England) on17th May 1964.

I can confirm that was Russ Taylor at Snetterton I was at that meeting as his assistant mechanic.
Russ if I remember correctly imported this car from South Africa and paid less than £700 to purchase.
He used this car on the road legally.
He was employed on sales at Schweppes (soft drinks) at the time and a real enthusiast.
I was an apprentice working at the Jaguar Centre at the Hyde ,Hendon at this time.
I hope this information is of interest.
