The car is mentioned in the book "Jaguar D Type & XKSS" by Graham Robson as one of 5 "works team cars" XKD504-XKD508. All with bolt on frames, long nose all built by June '55.

Raced by the factory during 1955 (Rolt/Hamilton #7 did not finish at Le Mans). Shipped to USA for the 1956 season with the Cunningham team. Sherwood Johnston winning at Waltboro on its debut. Johnston joined by Bill Spear in the Sebring 12 Hours, but DNF. Five more races with Johnston, before John Fitch drove it to two second places at Thompson Raceway in September. New No.1 driver Walt Hansgen then drove it at Thompson on 02 October (2nd. place) and at the same circuit on 28 October (1st place).
XKD506 stayed with the team for the next two seasons, occasionally racing alongside the newer Cunningham D-Types, before being returned to the UK at the end of 1958.

The picture posted here dated June 2012 from the Rodeo Drive Concours is incorrectly identified. It is NOT XKD506 it is XKD604. I do not believe XKD506 exists...

Although this car claims to be registered its number of 032 RW comes up as "Details cannot be found" on the DVLA enquiry section on the website.

Therefore it is not registered for use on the road. Perhaps this is its original number but it was never registered on the DVLA database base when it was computerised many years ago. An application could be made for its original number because I had number has not been allocated to any other vehicle.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
