Works 1954 car; TT, Dundrod, fitted with 2 1/2-litre engine, Moss/Walker, 18th; 3.4 engine fitted; used for display purposes and driver tests; early 1955 shipped out to USA, loaned to Briggs Cunningham; tested by Spear, Walters, Lloyd & Cunningham; Daytona Beach, Walters, achieved 164mph; Sebring 12 Hours, Hawthorn/Walters, 1st; shipped back to UK; Daily Express Silverstone, Hamilton, 5th; sold to Hamilton; lent to drivers such as Abecassis, Peter Whitehead & Michael Head; Swedish GP, Kristianstad, Head, 6th; winter 1956/57 sold to J. Forbes Clark (Wolverhampton); used for hillclimbs & sprints; later owners included Peter Skidmore (1970), British hillclimb champion Sir Nick Williamson Bt (hillclimbed at Shelsley Walsh), John Beasley (1980), Martin Hilton; now owned by Alan Lawson (Ripley, Surrey, UK).

XKD406. Raced by the factory during 1954, then shipped to USA for the Cunningham team to race. Phil Walters drove it at Daytona and Fort Pierce in February, then co-drove it with Mike Hawthorn to a win in the Sebring 12 Hours in March.
Car was returned to England after that.

I rember this car in a shed in Mortimer in berkshire with the cylinder head on a bench in front of it, the whole thing was under a thick layer of dust! Must have been in the late 70's

In the Nov. 2012 edition of the XK Gazette John Elmgreen reports the car is now for sale at dealer Lukas Huni in Zurich, Switzerland.

I remember seeing this car in a large shed in Mortimer in the late 70's. The head was off and on a bench infront of it. The car was coverd in dust.

The above references to the car being in a shed in Mortimer, Berkshire is correct. At the time it was owned by Sir Nicholas Williamson Bt who was British Hillclimb Champion in 1970 and 1972. My father was managing director of Sir Hedworth Williamson's Limeworks, a quarry company that Nick owned. As a small child I stayed at the house on a number of occasions and Nick would let me sit in the car pretending to drive.

When Peter Skidmore first brought 3 CPF to my father's garage in Egham in the early 1960s it was a 3.4 litre. Later we bored out the engine to a 3.8. The D type didn't have a fin at that time. We used to look after the car for Peter and pit crew at the races.
