The original owner of this car was Juan Manuel Fangio. The car was originally supplied by The Belgian Motor Company. It now resides in Jersey with its present owner.

1952 Jaguar C-Type Roadster 210hp 3,442cc inline six- cylinder double overhead camshaft engine with 2 two inch sand cast SU carburetors, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with torsion bars and tubular shocks, solid rear axle with torsion bar sprung trailing arms, torque reaction link and tubular shocks, multi-tube and stressed-skin frame, four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: Sayer's C-Type has established itself as one of racing's milestone designs. The C- Type was an astounding success in its first race, Le Mans 1951. Stirling Moss set the fastest race lap. Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead scored a dominant victory, breaking the old distance record with over an hour to go and finishing 75 miles in front of the second place Talbot. Later, C-Types swept the podium in the Dundrod Tourist Trophy and Moss captured two events at Goodwood. The C-Type's success set up a clamor for customer cars and production began in 1952. Its combination of competitiveness and reliability made it the ideal sports-racer and demand far exceeded supply which Jaguar manipulated to put its marquee sports-racer in the hands of marquee drivers. John Bentley, in his "Jaguar Guide" published in 1957 when memories were still fresh, comments: "If you happened to be named Farina or were a world's champion . your chances were good of getting one. If you happened to live in Westport, Connecticut, and business had been good that year, you would need to look elsewhere for your second car." Thatset up an intricate distribution system, helping some prominent race drivers pay their bills by acting as intermediaries for wealthy sportsmen who found the top of the C-Type delivery list out of their reach. Juan Manuel Fangio was one such beneficiary. Fresh from his 1951 World Championship with Alfa Romeo and rapidly establishing himself at racing drivers' pinnacle, Fangio was exactly the client whocould ascend quickly to the top of Jaguar's list, and he did, buying the C-Type on offer here today, XKC018, in October 1952 through Jaguar's Belgian distributor. Fangio's C-Type quickly boarded a ship for his home country of Argentina where it passed through Jaguar's distributor, Jose Millet, into an active South American racing career.Many premier European race cars in the Land of the Pampas have suffered ignominious fates, gaining strange engines and even stranger bodywork to keep them competitive on ever-smaller budgets. Not so XKC018 which was found and brought to the U.S. in the late 1980s by Bill Tracy. After an extended restoration by Tracy, XKC018 was displayed at Pebble Beach but otherwise little used. Subsequently soldto Italy, it has been scrupulously maintained but similarly little used except for an appearance in the Mille Miglia Retro. C-Type Jaguars rarely change hands. Their combination of superb handling, beauty and history makes them favorites of their owners. It has been seven years since one was offered at auction, and nine years since onehas appeared at a US auction, making the availability of XKC018 a rareand important opportunity. Making it even more rare is the exceptionaloriginality of XKC018. Fangio's C-Type retains its original engine andtransmission, highly unusual for a competitive sports racer with an essentially production-based engine. Even more unusually, a careful survey of XKC018 reveals that it is essentially exactly as it left Coventry nearly 49 years ago and has never been wrecked or rebodied. Most C-Types acquired updates developed for the factory cars such as Panhard rod rear suspension, disc brakes and Weber carburetion. XKC018still has its original torque reaction arm rear suspension, drum brakes and two inch SUs, perhaps unique among privately-owned C-Types.Its frame welds and other assembly techniques are characteristic of the Jaguar Experimental Shop. Chassis and body numbers are present exactly where they should be, in the correct form and appearance. In all respects XKC018 is a highly original example, unmolested and sympathetically restored and maintained. XKC018 is an exceptional example of the sports-racer that made Jaguar a racing legend. 1952 Jaguar C-type

Every Jaguar C-type is special, but few cars can claim to have had Formula 1 champions as both its first owner and its current one, from many decades apart.
This particular C-type, chassis XKC018, is believed to have been originally supplied to Juan Manuel Fangio, and raced extensively across South America. Despite the arduous nature of motor sport in this area of the world, the car retains its matching-numbers body panels and engine.
In the 1980s it was re-discovered and brought to the US by Bill Tracy, where it was restored and shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
In 2012 it took part in the Mille Miglia as part of a Jaguar Heritage Works entry, and it has competed at the Monaco Historique and the Le Mans Classic, too. It was also driven by Chris Harris in the Italian classic event, a video about which you can watch on YouTube.
The car is now owned by 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, taking pride of place among a varied collection of rare cars.
